Implenia wins contract to build motorway in Norway
Implenia and Stangeland have been selected as preferred bidders for the construction of a section of freeway in Norway. The Swiss construction company's share of the contract is CHF 220 million.
Nye Veier, planner and operator of Norway's main roads, wants to commission the consortium of Implenia and Stangeland to build the E39 Lyngdal East - Lyngdal West freeway. The two companies have already been awarded the contract. The legally binding decision and contract award is expected in mid-July 2021.
This is a turnkey contract with a total volume of 2.9 billion Norwegian kroner, equivalent to around CHF 320 million. The section is part of the expansion of the E39 Sørvest between Kristiansand and Stavanger and runs between Herdal and Røysgård in the municipality of Lyngdal. According to Implenia, around ten kilometers of four-lane highway will be built, 6.2 kilometers of which will include double-track tunnels, bridges and level crossings.
Construction is scheduled to begin this fall, with work expected to last until summer 2025. Implenia is to design and build the tunnels as well as the concrete structures, while Stangeland will be responsible for building the roads. Sweco Norway has been selected as the design office. (ah)
