With the new ZKB Wohnplus mortgage, Zürcher Kantonalbank (ZKB) says it wants to contribute to the development of non-profit housing. Housing cooperatives are to be able to receive an interest rate reduction of up to 0.50%. The concessions will be granted for extensions of existing mortgages as well as for new mortgages.

However, the interest rate reductions are subject to certain conditions: According to ZKB, the basic requirement for a ZKB Wohnplus mortgage is that residential rents fall below market rents by at least 15%. In addition, the evaluation model includes 28 qualification criteria applicable to non-profit housing developers and their developments. Established standards were taken into account, such as the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, the Swiss Sustainable Building Standard (SNBS), and the Guiding Principles for Nonprofit Housing in Switzerland, the ZKB says. The more of the 28 criteria are met, the higher the interest rate reduction. A maximum of 0.50% is possible, with the reduction granted during the first five years of the term. (ah)
