SPS portfolio to be climate-neutral by 2040
Swiss Prime Site plans to deposit three quarters of its real estate portfolio with sustainability certificates this year. By 2040, the portfolio should be climate-neutral.

Swiss Prime Site has announced that it will certify the majority of its real estate portfolio, which comprises around 180 properties and sites, before the end of the 2022 financial year. In recent months, more than a dozen pilot certifications have already been implemented. The aim is to have around 75% of the areas in the real estate portfolio certified by the end of the year, according to the real estate company.
According to its own statements, Swiss Prime Site is pursuing the goal of certifying all new construction/conversion and repositioning projects with a nationally or internationally recognized sustainability label. For existing properties, the real estate company is relying on BREEAM In-Use, while development projects are to be certified in accordance with the Swiss Sustainable Building Standard (SNBS). As Martin Pfenninger, Head Group Sustainability, says, a potential analysis will also be prepared for each certified property. This should result in measures to increase sustainability performance. The goal is a climate-neutral real estate portfolio by 2040.
According to Swiss Prime Site CEO René Zahnd, the real estate company is increasing transparency and establishing a reference framework by certifying its properties. "In addition, since last year we have linked our ambitious climate targets to our financing strategy," Zahnd said. "Every improvement in sustainability enables us to obtain more attractive financing." (ah)
