Holcim launches recycling platform for construction waste
With its proprietary Ecocycle platform, the building materials group aims to promote construction in the spirit of the circular economy.

Holcim intends to use construction and demolition materials for new building solutions in the future and has founded the Ecocycle platform within the company for this purpose. According to the Zug-based building materials group, the new technology will allow concrete, cement and aggregates to contain 10% to 100% of recycled construction and demolition material - "without compromising on performance". At the same time, the ecological footprint of the structures is reduced, it adds.
"With our Ecocycle technology, we can build cities from cities by recycling 100 percent of construction and demolition materials for new solutions," says CEO Jan Jenisch.
In Switzerland, Holcim sells a cement that consists of one-fifth recycled construction and demolition materials. In France, according to the company, the "world's first affordable housing complex" is being built entirely with recycled concrete. (ah)
