The key parameters of the design plan for the Sonnenhof site in the center of Bülach have now been finalized. This was announced by the developer, Terresta Immobilien- und Verwaltungs AG. The shopping center is to be retained and supplemented by 240 apartments as well as commercial and cultural space. Terresta is now conducting an online survey of the population on the plans.

Meanwhile, work is continuing on the design plan, which is being drawn up on the basis of a revised indicative project. The current planning status envisages that the existing shopping center will be developed in such a way that Migros can remain at its current location. Apartments, green courtyards and squares as well as a public passageway will be built on the existing parking lot. There are also plans for a public cultural and meeting center (Kubez) with restaurants, which should be built in the first phase if possible. "In principle, the project can be realized in independent stages, which allows more scope for development," Terresta explains.

Higher utilization

Compared to the original project, the revised guideline project has a higher utilization with taller buildings. According to Terresta, the aim is to make further use of existing buildings and make careful use of the scarce land.

Start of construction in 2029 at the earliest

The revised guideline project, its open space and urban development characteristics as well as the proposed density and height development were approved by the city council and presented to the city parliament. The design plan is due to go on public display at the beginning of 2026. If everything goes according to plan, construction on the first stage can begin in 2029 at the earliest. (aw)
