Migros closes DIY stores and exits Alnatura

Alnatura's organic supermarkets in Switzerland could be on the brink of closure following its withdrawal. And Migros has not found a buyer for its own DIY stores, which are not being taken over by Obi.

Migros has completed the divestment process for its subsidiaries Micasa and Do it + Garden. The furniture retailer Micasa will continue to operate with its 30 stores following a management buyout. The retail group has not found a successor solution for Do it + Garden, which is why most of the stores will close by the end of June 2025. As already knownthe two Do it + Garden stores in Carouge and Nyon will be transferred to the German DIY chain OBI. "Decentralized negotiations with potential interested parties from the DIY sector are still ongoing for individual Do it + Garden locations," Migros announced. The remaining 31 locations will close their doors for good by the end of June 2025 at the latest. Migros Fachmarkt AG will then be history by January 2026.

Another major commitment by the Migros Group is also on the brink of collapse: The Migros Cooperative Zurich is not extending its franchise agreement with the German organic market chain Alnatura. It operates a total of 25 organic markets throughout German-speaking Switzerland. In future, the company intends to concentrate on Migros' own sales channels for organic products. It is still unclear whether the Alnatura chain will remain in Switzerland. "The franchisor and organic food producer Alnatura is evaluating alternative scenarios for the operation of the stores in the coming weeks," says MIgros. A decision is expected to be announced in the first half of 2025. (aw)
