This summer, a smaller store in Herisau will be selling at night and on Sundays without staff with the help of surveillance technology.

Migros has submitted an application for its first supermarket in Switzerland to operate continuously. From this summer, the store on Alpsteinstrasse in Herisau will sell goods seven days a week and also at night. During the usual opening hours, the store will continue to operate with sales staff. Following the staffed operation, a self-service store will be operated with the help of access and monitoring technologies. The self-checkout tills will then be cashless. The store will be monitored by video and sensors. The sales area in Herisau is 295 square meters.

"Even in rural areas, there is a need for additional shopping facilities in highly frequented locations, especially for everyday products that are available regardless of store opening hours," comments Samuel Bauert, Head of Supermarkets at Migros Eastern Switzerland. (aw)
